Homeless folks have to choose between meals and work.

Most shelters serve breakfast too late for those with jobs. Once a week, we fill this gap with a meal and encouragement at local labor pools. We also open to them our Neighborly House “Christ Room” for shelter, showers, and laundry.

WAKEY, WAKEY

Breakfast Brigade assemble!

Every week, in solidarity, we get up earlier than the day-laborers to make breakfast and center ourselves in prayer as we prepare our hearts to serve. We head over to the local labor pool and lay down a tablecloth, put out freshly picked flowers from a friend’s garden, share boiled eggs from our 40+ chickens, offer pastries donated from Panera and start pouring cups of coffee and orange juice.

To “pull oneself up by the bootstraps” one must first have boots.

We occasionally receive requests from the laborers for steel-toe work-boots. Without boots, they cannot secure employment or accept construction job offers. Fun Fact: Did you know that this issue is what led us to start Neighborly back in ‘09?
